What is TTY?
TTY is an acronym for teletypewriter, and is also referred to as TDD, or Telecommunications Device for the Deaf. The TTY consists of a keyboard, which holds somewhere between 20 to 30 character keys, and a display screen. A TTY converts letters that are typed into electrical signals that can travel over regular telephone lines. When the signals reach their destination, the TTY converts them back into letters which either appear on a display screen, are printed out on paper, or both.
